Do you know about Herpes?
Herpes is a viral infection that is caused by herpes simplex virus. It’s a chronic condition. The Herpes virus has a property to hide itself in the body. It moves from the surface of the skin to the nerves and there, it can stay for the lifetime. Herpes virus can stay in our body in an inactive state. In that case the infected person doesn’t have any sore or any other symptoms of herpes. In case of stress and low immune system, this virus gets activated and sores with other symptoms will also appear on the body.
Types of Herpes
There are two types of herpes simplex virus, i.e. HSV-1 and HSV-2. HSV-1 stands for Herpes Simplex Virus type-1. This virus mainly causes oral herpes. The sores or blisters appear in and around the mouth in case of oral herpes. The sore can also appear anywhere on the face depending on the infection. HSV-1 is transferred by direct contact with the wounds or sores, saliva or kissing with an infected person. Mainly it gets transferred due to direct contact with body fluids or lesions of an infected person to a healthy person. In the starting period of herpes, it may also possible that, you do not notice any symptom of herpes or you can suffer with fever, muscle pains, swollen lymph nodes and headaches. These all condition only depends on the immune system.
HSV-2 stands for Herpes Simplex Virus type-2. This virus is mainly responsible to cause genital herpes. In genital herpes, the sore or blisters appear on and around the genital parts of the body. HSV-2 is transferred by having vaginal, oral, and anal sex without any protection. It can be avoided by using protection like a condom or by taking regularly pills. All symptoms and starting conditions are same as HSV-1.
Cases of genital herpes are commonly caused by HSV-2 and oral herpes is caused by HSV-1. It has been studied that, around 80% cases of herpes infection are caused by HSV-2 and remaining 20% cases are caused by HSV-1 every year.
